X Monetization Requirements in 2026 - The Full Eligibility Checklist

To get paid by X you need 500 followers, 5 million impressions in 90 days, an active Premium subscription and a verified Stripe account. Here is every requirement in detail.

To be eligible for X Creator Revenue Sharing as of September 2026 you need three things: at least 500 followers, at least 5 million organic impressions across the last 3 months, and an active paid X Premium or Premium+ subscription. You also need to be 18 or older and able to complete identity and payout setup through Stripe.

The follower bar is low. The impression bar is the one that stops most people.

The three hard requirements

1. 500 followers

The lowest bar of the three, and the one people fixate on. Five hundred followers is achievable in weeks. It is not what is keeping you out of the program.

2. 5,000,000 organic impressions in the last 90 days

This is the real gate. Five million impressions in three months is an average of about 55,000 impressions a day, every day, for 90 days.

To put that in perspective, an account with 10,000 followers posting twice a day at average engagement generates somewhere around 100,000 to 300,000 impressions a month. That account is a year or more of consistent growth away from qualifying.

"Organic" is doing work in that sentence: impressions from promoted or paid-amplified posts do not count toward the threshold.

The window rolls. If your impressions were huge four months ago and quiet since, you fall back out of eligibility.

3. Active X Premium or Premium+ subscription

You must be a paying subscriber. The basic Premium tier runs about $8 a month (less if billed annually), Premium+ is higher. If your subscription lapses, payouts stop — this catches people who cancel during a slow month and do not realise they have switched off their own revenue.

Premium+ subscribers have generally been treated more favourably in payout calculations than basic Premium subscribers, though X does not publish the exact weighting.

The setup requirements people forget

Meeting the metrics is not the same as being paid. You also need:

  • To be 18 or over.
  • A verified phone number on the account.
  • A Stripe account connected through X's payout setup. X pays out through Stripe, so your country must be one Stripe supports for payouts. This is the quiet blocker for creators in several countries — the metrics can be met and the money still cannot be delivered.
  • Identity and tax information submitted through the Stripe onboarding flow.
  • An account in good standing. Accounts with active policy strikes, or that trip X's platform manipulation and spam rules, are excluded. This is also where engagement-bait behaviour becomes a monetization risk and not just an aesthetic one.

Where to check your own numbers

Open Analytics from the side menu (or x.com/i/account_analytics). The impressions figure over a 3-month range is the number that matters. The Monetization section of Settings shows your current eligibility state directly, including which criteria you have not met.

If you want to know how far off you are and roughly how long it will take at your current pace, the payout calculator runs the eligibility check and projects earnings at the same time.

What happens after you qualify

Once you are eligible you opt in through Settings → Monetization → Creator Revenue Sharing. From there:

  • Earnings accrue continuously and appear in your monetization dashboard.
  • A minimum balance is required before any money is released — X has used a $10 threshold in recent cycles, though this figure has changed before, so confirm the current number in your own dashboard.
  • Payouts run on a recurring cycle, typically every two weeks for accounts over the threshold, paid to your connected Stripe account.

Balances below the threshold roll forward rather than expiring. For small accounts this means the first payout often arrives months after the first dollar is earned.

What the requirements do not tell you

Qualifying and earning meaningfully are two different problems. An account that just crosses 5 million impressions a quarter is generating roughly 1.7 million impressions a month, which at typical rates is somewhere between $1.70 and $17 a month. That is below the withdrawal threshold in many months.

The requirements are a floor for entry, not a threshold for meaningful income. Real money starts when monthly impressions run into the tens of millions, or when your audience is concentrated in a Premium-dense, US-heavy niche where the per-impression rate is several times the global average. FAQ

What are the requirements to get monetized on X in 2026?

500 followers, 5 million organic impressions in the last 3 months, an active X Premium or Premium+ subscription, age 18+, a verified phone number, and a connected Stripe account for payouts.

Do I need X Premium to earn money on X?

Yes. An active paid Premium or Premium+ subscription is mandatory for Creator Revenue Sharing, and payouts stop if the subscription lapses.

How long does it take to get 5 million impressions?

At 55,000 impressions a day you hit it in exactly 90 days. A 10,000-follower account posting twice daily at average engagement typically needs to grow substantially first — most accounts reach it somewhere between 30,000 and 100,000 followers, depending on how much reach their posts get beyond their own followers.

Do impressions on replies count toward the 5 million?

Organic impressions across your posts, including replies, count toward the threshold. Impressions from promoted or paid-amplified content do not.

Can I get monetized on X outside the United States?

Yes, as long as X supports monetization in your country and Stripe supports payouts there. The metrics requirements are the same everywhere, but per-impression rates are considerably lower for audiences outside North America and Western Europe.

Does the 5 million impression requirement reset?

It is a rolling 90-day window, not a one-time achievement. If your impressions fall below the threshold over the trailing 3 months, eligibility pauses until they recover.
