There are three thresholds. You need at least 500 followers. You need 5M organic impressions across the previous 90 days. And you need an active paid X Premium or Premium+ subscription. All three at once, continuously.

Two further conditions are administrative rather than numeric: you must be 18 or over, and you must complete onboarding with a connected Stripe account in a supported country. The Stripe step is where a number of otherwise eligible creators stall, because payout support depends on the country the account is registered in.

There is also an implicit gate that is not expressed as a number: your account has to be in good standing. Enforcement history against the platform's rules on spam, platform manipulation and engagement farming can block monetization regardless of whether you clear the thresholds, and reciprocal-engagement schemes are specifically the kind of activity that puts an account at risk. Reach built that way can disqualify you from being paid for it.

Of the numeric gates, the impressions one does essentially all the work. 500 followers is reachable by any account that posts consistently for a few months. 5M impressions in 90 days - about 1.7M a month - requires reach far beyond your own following.

The impressions requirement is a rolling window, not a one-time achievement. It looks at the previous 90 days continuously, so a single viral month can carry you over the line and then drop you back under it three months later when that month rolls out of the window.

This catches people out. Eligibility is not a status you earn and keep; it is a condition you either currently satisfy or do not. An account that qualified in March on the back of one breakout post can find itself ineligible in June having done nothing differently.

Only organic impressions count. Promoted reach does not contribute to the threshold, and it does not earn payouts either, so an account that has been running ads should look at the organic subtotal in X Analytics rather than the headline figure.

Work out which gate you are failing, because the responses are completely different. Short on followers, keep posting and the problem solves itself. Short on impressions, the answer is reach mechanics - reply volume under larger accounts, posting cadence, topic choice - and not follower growth.

Do not subscribe to Premium in advance. It is required at the point of onboarding, not while you build toward the impressions threshold, and paying for months of subscription against no payable balance is a straightforward loss.

Then check whether the payout is worth the onboarding once you do clear the gates. For an account that has only just crossed the threshold, particularly with a non-US audience, the estimated payout can sit below the subscription cost, and it is better to know that before you start rather than after.
