How Much Does X Pay Per 1 Million Impressions in 2026?

X pays roughly $0.50 to $10 per 1 million impressions, and where you land in that band is decided almost entirely by how many of your viewers pay for Premium.

Updated 2026-09-19 · 5 min read

Short answer: as of September 2026, creators report earning roughly $0.50 to $10 per 1 million impressions on X. Most accounts land between $1 and $3. The top of that band is reached almost exclusively by accounts whose audience is American and heavily subscribed to X Premium.

That spread — a 20x difference between the bottom and the top — is the single most misunderstood thing about X monetization. Two accounts can post identical numbers in their analytics and receive payouts an order of magnitude apart. This article explains why, and what the number actually depends on.

X does not pay for impressions

This is the part that trips everyone up. X's Creator Revenue Sharing program does not pay per view. It pays for engagement from verified Premium subscribers.

When the program launched in July 2023, it paid a share of advertising revenue from ads served in the replies to your posts. In October 2024 X replaced that model. Payouts are now driven by how much Premium users engage with your content, not by ad placements under it.

The practical consequence: the "impressions" number in your analytics is the denominator, not the numerator. If 2 million people see your post but almost none of them pay $8 a month for Premium, your payout for that post rounds to very little. If 200,000 people see it and a large share are Premium subscribers arguing in your replies, you can out-earn the bigger post outright.

X's own marketing has quoted figures in the range of $8 to $12 per million verified impressions. Because Premium users are only a slice of any normal audience — creator reports put it somewhere in the 5% to 20% range depending on niche — the effective rate against total impressions comes out far lower. That is the reconciliation between X's number and the one in your bank account.

What the real numbers look like

Public payout screenshots from creators cluster like this:

Account size Typical reported monthly payout
1,000 – 10,000 followers $10 – $100
10,000 – 100,000 followers $100 – $800
100,000 – 1M followers $300 – $2,000
Large, US-heavy, high-volume $2,000 – $10,000+

One widely circulated example: a creator reported $162 on 95.1 million impressions — an effective rate of about $1.70 per million. That account was not doing anything wrong. It had a global audience with a low Premium density, which is the normal case.

The accounts at the $8–$10 per million end are usually US politics, crypto, finance or tech commentary — niches where the audience is disproportionately made of people who already pay for a blue check.

Run your own numbers with the X payout calculator — it applies these bands to your impressions and audience mix.

The four things that actually move your rate

1. Audience geography. A US or Canadian audience is worth several times a South Asian or Southeast Asian one, for the same reason CPMs differ everywhere else in advertising: advertisers bid more for those eyeballs. This is the largest single factor.

2. Premium density in your niche. Crypto, finance, AI, US politics and tech-founder content all skew heavily toward paying subscribers. Fandom, meme and general-interest content does not. Same impressions, very different payouts.

3. Engagement depth, not reach. Replies and long conversations from Premium accounts appear to matter more than passive views. This is why high-volume reply accounts and quote-tweet-bait accounts monetize better than their follower counts suggest.

4. Content format. Video and image posts that hold attention tend to generate more qualifying engagement per impression than a bare link post, which most users scroll past.

Why nobody can quote you an exact rate

X publishes no rate card. There is no documented dollars-per-impression figure, no public formula, and payouts have been recalculated more than once since 2023 without advance notice. Anyone quoting a single precise number — "X pays exactly $2.40 per million" — is guessing and presenting it as fact.

The honest version is a range, tightened by what we know about your audience. That is what this site does: it applies a geography- and niche-adjusted band to your impressions and shows you a low, middle and high figure rather than one false-precision number. The methodology page documents exactly how the bands are set.

How to estimate your own payout in 30 seconds

  1. Open X Analytics and read your impressions for the last 28 days.
  2. Divide by 1,000,000.
  3. Multiply by $1 for a conservative floor, $3 for a typical middle, $8 if your audience is US-heavy and in a Premium-dense niche.

That gives you a realistic band. The calculator does the same arithmetic with the geography and niche adjustments applied properly, and also tells you whether you currently meet the eligibility requirements.

FAQ

How much does X pay per 1 million impressions?

Roughly $0.50 to $10 per 1 million impressions as of September 2026, with most creators reporting $1 to $3. The rate depends mainly on how many of your viewers are paying X Premium subscribers and where they live.

Why did I earn less than the rate X advertises?

X's quoted figures refer to verified impressions — views from Premium subscribers. Premium users typically make up only 5% to 20% of a normal audience, so the effective rate against your total impression count is much lower.

Does X pay for views on replies?

Engagement on your replies counts toward your payout under the current model, which is why high-volume reply accounts often earn more than their follower count suggests. The original 2023 model paid for ads shown in replies; that was replaced in October 2024.

Is the payout rate the same in every country?

No. Payouts track advertiser value, so audiences in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia generate substantially more per impression than audiences in most of South Asia, Latin America and Africa.

How many impressions do I need to make $1,000 a month on X?

At a typical $2 per million you would need roughly 500 million impressions a month. At a US, Premium-dense $8 per million, about 125 million. This is why audience composition matters more than raw reach.
